Pastry heaven at Purple Oven

po_doorSeeing that signage made my heart flutter. Opening its door made my heart skip a beat. Did I just go to pastry heaven? Yes. And my heart was ready for some delicious Purple Oven treats.

I have only tasted pastries, specifically, brownies, revel bars and lemon squares, from this bakery from my company’s canteen. My dad used to bring home their goodies too all the way from their Pasig branch. So when I found out that my friend is going to their Makati branch, I just had to tag myself along. I had to see the place for myself and yes, take some sweet treats for me.

Their place is really small. It’s more of a take-out counter than a place where one can dine in. There is this corner that can seat up to 6 people. I find it somehow elegant with marble tables, couches, and plush seats. I also like the arrangement of the various framed paintings on the wall.

Most of their goods are sold in batches. Only the ones with clear plastic covers (photo above) are sold on a per piece basis. This saddened me a bit as I really wanted to try their cookies. I wasn’t able to take a photo of it but they also serve cakes and other refrigerated sweets.

Since my friend and I were on the go at that time, we had our chosen pastries to go. Below are our heavenly treats.

Choco Swirl (P 65)

This swirl was soft, not that airy, and very yummy. I think they used dark or semi-sweet chocolate because the taste was just right. Each layer had the right amount of chocolate that you could taste the bread with that addition.

Looks familiar? If you’re a Starbucks fan, you would know that they used to have this. I heard that they changed the supplier for their pastry (interested to know why? Read on HERE). My friend chose this and liked it. For him, it wasn’t that sweet though a bit messy because of the cream. I can attest to the messines since I used to buy this a lot at Starbucks. The cream balances out the taste of the cinnamon, thus, creating one delicious swirl. This is best served warm, and paired with a cup of fresh brewed coffee.

poPurple Oven has already made its mark in the metro with its delicious pastries. I’m sure that their cafes will soon be (or have been) garnering pastry fans in the years to come. I sure am one of them. 🙂
