Kuya J Restaurant: A Welcome Filipino Food

kuya-j-restaurant-1When we got back from our weeklong trip at the Land of the Rising Sun, this was the first meal that greeted us back. Having Pinoy food is always a welcome sight. After seeing a couple of its posters along SLEX, time to try out the food that this restaurant offers.

kuya-j-restaurant-4We arrived on a late afternoon so the crowd was not that many. Not sure if this gets packed but the place was spacious. It can definitely accommodate big groups in or outside of the resto.

kuya-j-restaurant-chorizo-dinamitas-1When I first bit into this, it wasn’t spicy at all. I really liked the flavor especially with the garlic mayo dip. A couple of bites later, my tongue was starting to tingle. I liked how the heat inched its way in! It made me appreciate its non-spicy taste at first before turning the heat on. Whew! That was one good appetizer.

Kare-kare (P 399)

kuya-j-restaurant-kare-kareI wasn’t a fan of this. It was lacking on the peanut flavor for me.

Stuffed Grilled Squid with Barbecue Sauce (P 290)

kuya-j-restaurant-stuffed-grilled-squid-with-barbecue-sauce-1Boy was this a good one! The squid was grilled well, and the flavor was just spot on. The sauce on it was just right. It didn’t overpower the dish, and still placed the highlight on the squid.

Deep-fried Tuna Belly (P 350)

kuya-j-restaurant-5There were some stellar dishes that balanced out with the not so stellar ones. Probably more of taste preference but I’m sure their other dishes are good too. But this restaurant deserves a big plus for having good service. We were well attended to by the multiple servers here. And all were just all smiles all throughout. With that kind of service, a second visit either at this branch or at their other branches is a must.
