To say that I was excited to eat here would be an understatement. I don’t know if there’s a word to describe the feeling I got when we finally arrived here. It was our first taste of a legitimate Taiwanese dish since we landed. And yes, I think that having this as your first legit dish on your first day would be very, very proper.
If the line is long, you know that it’s one good resto. While we were waiting, we ticked off the items that we would order. They do the same process with other diners. You are handed with this paper that contains all their dishes. We had multiple changes on our order but finally decided on a LOT of dishes. Talk about being really hungry! 😀
The place was quite big. Even though it was crowded, service was great. Servers were really friendly. They even offer to cover your bags with this brown shiny cloth. They also have this basket in case you have a big bag.
And this was just warm and a little spicy. Perfect for the cold weather we had that night! I did taste the beef base there which was really good and rich.
Simply superb! This had equal amounts of vegetable and ground pork. I liked the bun itself. I felt this pop upon biting it and the softness of the dough within.
Another flavorful dish! This had ample serving of shrimp and wasn’t that oily.
Just as the name suggests, it is really sticky. I had a bit of trouble talking to my friends after to describe its taste to them. I liked how the rice layer was very intact, flavorful, and quite thin. It had generous pork filling inside.
And now for the main event: the xialongbaos! 😀 Out of the five types they had, we ordered three. Hihihi 😛
I did taste the crab roe but this leaned more on the pork side.
And this was simply good! I really liked the addition of green squash as it gave this fresh taste to the xiaolongbao.
And this is the part where I will rave. Of course I saved this for the last! For me, it’s the ultimate xialongbao variant that deserves much praise. Just look at how delicate that is! The folds and thin layer that holds all that pork goodness inside. With the mix of rice vinegar, brewed soy sauce and ginger strips, I wanted to close my eyes and revel in its soupy taste. I think I did close my eyes that time. We only ordered 5 but we ended ordering 10 more. Haha. For that order, it costs NTD 200.
One must have room for dessert. But to be honest, we were so full by this time that we had the other dishes to go. We finished this one up sensing that it’s best to eat it while it’s still warm. True enough, it was good. The red bean wasn’t sweet and stayed true to its taste. I liked how it cleansed my palate from all the good dishes we had. Perfect dessert to cap off anyone’s meal here 🙂
I would line up for this again. I really would. They’re queuing system was quite good. Plus, not only was the food great but very affordable. Though the xiaolongbao madness stopped, it would forever live on in my heart. Hahaha (xiaolongbao high) 😀
