So glad this opened near my office! I have been meaning to try it ever since it opened in Rockwell. Hailed as one of the best by Philippine Tatler, it’s a testament to their tagline that says “purveyors of fine food”. To be honest, I was there to just try their coffee but just upon hearing that line, it does make one want to try their dishes. Time to find the truth behind that line that fateful evening. 🙂
The place was really classy. I have passed by this branch several times in the afternoon and I must say, it looks way better at night. I liked the warm lighting which sets the overall mood. It looked good against their marbled flooring, tables and wooden chairs.
As our starter, we had this fusion dish. It was mostly fries topped with spiced carnitas, kimchi, melted cheese and sour cream. I was expecting it to be on the spicy and sour side but the cheese balanced the flavor out. It balanced it really good that it lost the kimchi flavor there. I just wish it had that kick or more of the kimchi flavor in.
I have been hearing rave reviews about their carbonara that we simply had to try it. Using organic pasta, this dish had mushrooms, bacon, parsley and poached egg all in creamy white wine sauce. Once I had a bite of this, my hands were clapping and my heart was happy. Okay, so I didn’t clap literally but it was worth the imaginary clapping in my mind. Even though the poached egg was almost cooked, I didn’t mind it for the dish was just immaculate. The sauce was so good that paired well with all the components of the dish, most especially, their organic pasta. If I had to eat one carbonara for the rest of my life, this would be it. I know that’s a big statement but until I find a better one than this, I would have this. It’s worth every peso in my book. 😉
I was supposed to have this before all our dishes so I just had it to go. It’s best to have it heated up for a bit to get that filling warm. Either way, it was good! It was pretty huge too that it can be shared by two people as a snack.
We actually got this for free all thanks to Booky. I made our reservation using that app. And before we finished our dishes, I just needed to fill out this survey about the restaurant. Once done, I got a free dessert. This was the sweet ending that night. Their natural organic ice cream was really good. We opted for their Valrhona Chocolate flavor as recommended by one of their servers. It was creamy with having that right chocolate taste.
Not a caramel person but I did like this drink very much. Not too sweet with having that good espresso kick in. It looked pretty nice on the photo too. 😉
So is Dean & DeLuca really a purveyor of fine food? It’s a definite yes. Though one dish wasn’t as stellar, most are really good. The pasta was the real winner here. I liked how all the ingredients were carefully thought out especially how it was sourced out. Overall ambiance was good too coupled with good service. I would definitely be back for more bites, coffee and fine dining experience. 🙂
