Unveiling the hype around Tim Hortons

When I was informed that a branch of Tim Hortons finally opened in Makati, I was excited. I was both excited and curious. There’s this hype surrounding this cafe ever since rumors of it opening in the Philippines started. Opening its first branch in BGC, there were lots of mixed reviews on this. Some were loving it while some were simply “meh”. Of course that got me even more curious.

Call it destiny but their location in the Makati CBD area was just perfect. It may be little secluded but news does get around quickly. Not sure what happened to their supposed branch at The Link. I have been seeing the signage there for months already but up to this day (correct me if I’m wrong), it’s still not open. It’s just apt that they open a branch here. During a somewhat lonesome afternoon, this was surprisingly crowded. It was still fairly new when we visited so I guess the hype is still there. The branch itself was quite small with very limited seats.

Vanilla Dip Donut (P40)
Timbits (P80 for 10pcs)

Their Vanilla Dip Donut was just cute! And that’s just about it. I didn’t like its taste much. I actually find those colorful sugar “pops” to be distracting when I eat the donut. I preferred the Timbits which gives one a taste of their donuts but in a smaller version. It wasn’t sweet so it doesn’t give you that lingering sweet aftertaste.

Double Double Original Blend Coffee (Medium at P80)

That drink above is their most requested or raved drink. But for a coffee aficionado like me, it was just okay. I find it to not be as strong as I expected. It probably has to do with the double cream and sugar that they placed in it. It diluted the coffee flavor for me. But for its price, very good price point not just for this drink but for their other coffee choices.

And I was finally able to unveil the hype around this cafe! In terms of price range, it’s cheaper than most cafes around the metro. I asked my friend, who tried the branch over in Canada, if it stayed true to the brand. She said it did. That’s a plus point for them; however, I just find something to be lacking. Or maybe I shouldn’t have had expectations on this. Since this branch is still quite new, their service could be better. As for the food, it was just okay. I do think I’ll be back to try to their other coffee concoctions.
