Some donut time at Cupcakes by Sonja

Ever since I read this post, I instantly wanted to go to the nearest Cupcakes by Sonja. I mean, weren’t you enticed when you saw the video? Did you get that tingling feeling when it turned brown on the fryer? Didn’t your mouth simply water when the filling was finally placed in? I did. The thought of having it was on the back of my head for weeks. On a fateful and somewhat hungry day, I decided to make a go for it since I was in Glorietta that time. Good timing too for I was able to get ahold of their buy 1 take 1 promo on their doughnuts as a celebration for their 11th year anniversary. Talk about “good things come to those who wait”. 😉

AHHHHH…THE DOUGHNUTS!
Vanilla Bean Doughnut (P60)

I had to pay for one donut that time. Being that this is the “cheaper” donut, you’ll surely get your money’s worth if you buy this at full price. The donut itself was quite heavy which is probably due to the generous filling inside. I liked how the dough itself was quite compact and fluffy. It didn’t have this oily taste which goes to show how they drained and let those donuts to rest. The sugar coating was equally distributed. As for the filling, SO DARN GOOD. I do have a preference for vanilla, and this was a homerun. It was creamy with having that vanilla taste. You could even see the vanilla bean traces in the filling.

Gianduja Doughnut (P75)

Just when I thought that their Vanilla Bean Doughnut wouldn’t be topped, this donut definitely took away that spot. The nuts above the filling may have moved (totally my fault) but the flavor was MIND BLOWINGLY GOOD. The filling was a mixture of both chocolate and hazelnut. For chocolate lovers out there, I beg of you to try this. In my opinion, this is worth every peso.

Normally, one would think of cupcakes when anyone mentions Cupcakes by Sonja. Well, it does say it on their name; however, their doughnuts have a lot going on for them. Not only is it carefully prepared but also well thought out. Down from the ingredients up to the filling, I wouldn’t mind paying the somehow expensive fee. It is pricier compared to other donut places but nothing beats quality paired with great tasting treats. 🙂

  1. Is this available in all their branches, or only at their Glorietta 2 location? 🙂
